首先要和大家介绍一下一二九运动到底是怎么一回事，同志们都知道，然而，我们应该进一步了解：它是在什么政治环境下产生的呢？它有什么政治意义呢？
它对中国政治有什么样的影响？明白了这些问题，就会知道现在中国的情况跟过去大大地不同了，现在的事情不是比过去难办，而是比过去好办多了。
经过长征，红军于1935年10月到达陕北吴起镇。那时，敌人还在攻击我们。当年11月下旬，我们在富县打了三仗。在祝捷声中，在十二月十日，一听到北平一二九运动的消息，我们心里好不欢喜！
红军同志完成了这么伟大的长征，学生同志在北平发动了这样伟大的救亡运动，两者都是为解放民族和解放人民而斗争，其直接意义都是推动抗日战争。因此，在历史上，1929年运动是抗日战争准备的一个非常重要的方面。
有些人说，一二九运动不如五四运动，就是说，前者不及后者的政治意义伟大。这对不对呢？不对。我们认为两者的意义同样重大。
五四运动为北伐战争作了准备。如果没有五四运动，北伐是不可想像的。有些人认为没有权力，但是事呢？
广大学生群众的五四运动，推动六三全国性的罢工、罢市、罢课的反帝和反****的斗争，发展成为全民族的运动。五四运动以后，产生了中国共产党，促成了第一次国共合作，掀起了五卅运动，发动了北伐战争，造成了第一次大革命。当时很明显，没有五四运动，第一次大革命是不可能的。
五四运动确实为第一次大革命作了人民、思想和干部的准备。
至于1929年的运动，是抗日战争的准备，正如五四运动是第一次大革命的准备一样。一二九推动了七七抗战，准备了七七抗战。
让我们看看1929年的运动是在什么情况下发生的。一方面，它是在共产党被认为绝对无权、绝对不合法的国民党统治区，在国民党反动派的剿共战争时期，在军事围剿和文化围剿双管齐下的情况之下发生的。在过去的所谓的打压共产党战争中，不用说共产党和红军的处境是困难的。
后来红军长征了，一走走了二万五千里，人家在后面也欢送了二万五千里，并且在前面还有欢迎的，在天上加上送礼的，这礼物名曰炸弹。尽管欢送者一程一程地相送，欢迎者一站一站地相迎，红军仍然到了陕北。但是敌人仍然用子弹作为礼物来迎接他们，并把他们送回来送去。
也就是说，红军到达陕北时，还处于围剿之中。这就是军事围剿的情形。文化围剿怎么样呢？
敌人的碉堡建在学校、书籍、报纸、杂志和社会文教组织中，势头稳定。
在这一点上，我们只需要看看鲁迅先生的杂感。他抨击时弊的文章，反对文化的包围和压迫，反对青年思想的压迫。另一方面，日本帝国主义占领了东北，酝酿了华北的专业化，并积极准备毁灭整个中国。
因此，四亿五千万人民都想同日本帝国主义作斗争。可是，有一些人偏偏不赞成。不过，他们也是要打的，打的是谁呢？
是共产党、青年学生和文化领域的进步人士。全国人民对他们说：你们走错了方向，我们坚决反对。
这是1929年运动所处环境的另一方面。一二九运动以后，事情就逐渐好办了。西安事变和平解决，国民党**只打共产党不打日本帝国主义的办法行不通了，不得不放弃剿共政策而走准备抗战的路，这就开了国民党的三中全会，抗日民族统一战线也就在事实上宣告成立。
对于这些，1929年运动的功献是巨大的。
